Your trip

Mount Meru Waterfall (often called Napuru Waterfall) is a 75-meter cascade located on the slopes of Mt Meru near Arusha, Tanzania. The hike is a 1.5–2 km, challenging trek taking 1.5–2 hours round trip, involving riverbed walking, steep steps, and dense forest, approx. 30-minute drive from town). Moderate to challenging, involving slippery rocks, steep steps, and crossing small creeks. Typically, a half-day trip. Morning (before 10 AM) offers the best lighting for photography and avoids the hottest part of the day. Avoid the peak rainy season (around April), as the trail becomes flooded and inaccessible. Using a local guide is recommended to navigate the area and arrange access, Wear swimming shoes or sandals (like crocs) that can handle water and walking in the riverbed. The ScheduleHalf-Day Trek

Hotel Pick-up & Scenic Drive

Your day begins with a convenient pickup from your accommodation by your Kili to Savanna driver. You will enjoy a scenic, comfortable 30-minute drive winding out of town and up onto the emerald green lower slopes of Mount Meru, arriving at the trailhead briefing point.

Trailhead Briefing & Forest Hike

At the base, you will meet your expert local guide who will manage your entry access and guide you safely through the unique terrain. After a brief safety overview, you will step onto the trail, immediately plunging into a world of towering trees and dense montane forest. As you trek, keep your eyes on the forest canopy—this area is famous for its lively populations of beautiful blue monkeys leaping between the branches.

The River Bed Challenge

The trail quickly transforms into a true nature adventure. You will navigate moderate to challenging sections involving steep, muddy downhill paths and a series of steep steps built into the hillside. You will then enter the canyon gorge, where you will trek directly along the riverbed, crossing small, flowing creeks and stepping over moss-covered, slippery rocks. Moving slowly and enjoying the crisp mountain air is the secret to a great hike here.

Arrival at Napuru Waterfall

As the sound of crashing water grows louder, the canyon opens up to reveal the magnificent 75-meter Mount Meru Waterfall cascading dramatically down a sheer rock face. Take your time to relax on the rocks, absorb the refreshing mist, capture stunning photographs, or take a quick, invigorating dip in the cool, natural pool sitting right at the base of the falls.

Return Trek and Transfer

After enjoying the pristine scenery, you will begin your return journey back through the canyon gorge. Navigating the riverbed and climbing back up the forest steps offers a fantastic, active workout to close out your excursion. Reaching the vehicle at the trailhead, you will board your private transport for the smooth drive back to town.
